Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Baker & Pastry Chef responsible for managing all bakery and pastry operations. This role requires expertise in producing high-quality baked goods, developing seasonal menus, maintaining kitchen standards, and training junior staff. The ideal candidate combines creativity with consistency and strong operational control.

Pastry chefs are typically responsible for preparing baked goods, managing inventory, supervising staff, and developing new recipes while ensuring quality and hygiene standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Kitchen Operations

• Prepare and produce a wide range of products including breads, viennoiserie, cakes, desserts, and plated sweets

• Follow standardized recipes while maintaining consistency and quality

• Manage daily production schedules to meet business demand

• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of ingredients

• Operate and maintain all bakery equipment

Pastry chefs are responsible for preparing a variety of baked goods and ensuring efficient kitchen operations.

2. Menu Development & Innovation

• Develop new recipes and innovative dessert concepts

• Create seasonal menus and special items aligned with market trends

• Test and refine recipes to ensure cost efficiency and product excellence

• Design visually appealing presentations and modern plating

Developing new and seasonal recipes is a core responsibility in pastry roles.

3. Quality Control & Standards

• Maintain the highest standards of taste, texture, and presentation

• Monitor product consistency across all batches

• Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP)

• Conduct regular quality checks on ingredients and finished products

Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and consistency is essential in pastry kitchens.

4. Inventory & Cost Control

• Monitor stock levels and order ingredients efficiently

• Control food cost, minimize waste, and optimize production

• Work within budget while maintaining quality standards

Inventory management and ordering supplies are key pastry chef duties.

5. Team Leadership & Supervision

• Supervise and guide bakers, pastry cooks, and assistants

• Assign tasks and manage shift schedules

• Train and mentor junior staff

• Maintain a positive and professional kitchen environment

Pastry chefs often lead teams and train staff within their section.

6. Customer & Business Engagement

• Handle custom orders (cakes, events, special desserts)

• Collaborate with management on menu pricing and product strategy

• Stay updated with industry trends and customer preferences

Qualifications & Skills

• Diploma or certification in Baking & Pastry Arts (preferred)

• 3–8+ years of experience in bakery or pastry kitchens

• Strong knowledge of baking techniques, doughs, and dessert production

• Creativity and attention to detail

• Leadership and training ability

• Knowledge of food safety standards

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
