Implement and monitor IMI’s HSE requirements across assigned shipyard zones/projects (operational and support areas) by maintaining a strong field presence, conducting inspections, verifying critical controls (PTW/JSA/TRA), intervening when unsafe conditions/acts are observed, and supporting supervisors and contractors to prevent incidents and maintain legal and IMI compliance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Maintain continuous field presence and conduct planned (LPI Focused Inspections) and ad-hoc inspections in assigned areas (yard, quayside, workshops, vessel/structure work fronts) to identify hazards, verify controls, and stop unsafe work.
•Exercise stop-work authority when an imminent risk or serious breach is observed; ensure the area is made safe, promptly notify the responsible Supervisor/Foreman and the Operational Safety Supervisor, and support controlled restart only after corrective actions are implemented and verified.
•Verify the effective application of IMI’s Permit to Work (PTW) system and critical work controls (e.g., Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, LOTO, Working at Height, Lifting/Rigging) including permit accuracy, isolations, gas testing requirements, barriers, and worksite conditions.
•Confirm that risk assessments (JSA/TRA) are suitable and sufficient for the task and match site conditions; challenge and escalate where controls are missing, ineffective, or not understood by the work party.
•Monitor contractors and subcontractors for compliance with IMI HSE requirements and contractual obligations; issue observations/violations through the approved process and track close-out with the responsible line supervision.
•Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly and participate in investigations and root cause analysis; ensure corrective actions are clearly defined, assigned, and followed within agreed timeframes.
•Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and on-the-job coaching to improve hazard awareness and strengthen safe behaviours; intervene and correct at-risk behaviours in real time.
•Support emergency preparedness by checking availability/condition of relevant emergency equipment in assigned areas and participating in drills and site emergency response activities as required.
•Maintain accurate and timely inspection records, observations, corrective action follow-up, and reports in accordance with IMI document control requirements and agreed reporting timelines.
