Protection Engineer

About the Role

Jazan Integrated Gasification & Power Company (JIGPC) is seeking a highly skilled Protection Engineer to join our Maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, compliance, testing, maintenance, and optimization of electrical protection systems supporting a large-scale industrial and power generation facility.

This role requires hands-on expertise in protective relays, fault analysis, relay testing, switchgear protection, and power system troubleshooting within power generation, utilities, oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of electrical protection systems.
• Test, calibrate, configure, and troubleshoot protective relays and associated equipment.
• Conduct fault investigations, root cause analysis, and system performance evaluations.
• Maintain and optimize protection schemes for transmission, distribution, and generation systems.
• Support maintenance shutdowns, turnarounds, and plant upgrades.
• Analyze protection events and disturbance records to improve system reliability.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, safety requirements, and industry regulations.
• Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and Project teams.
• Prepare maintenance reports, test records, and technical documentation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical protection systems.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

Experience

• 10 years of experience in Electrical Protection Engineering.
• Experience within Power Generation, Utilities, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy, or Heavy Industrial facilities.
• Hands-on experience with protection relays, relay testing, fault analysis, and electrical troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Power Systems Engineering.
• Certification in Protective Relaying (SEL, GE, Siemens, Beckwith, or equivalent).
• NFPA 70E or other Electrical Safety Certification.
• Experience with SAP PM or other CMMS systems.
