Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Receives, sorts, and inspects used surgical instruments and medical equipment for decontamination.
- Manually cleans instruments using appropriate detergents and disinfectants.
- Operates and maintains decontamination equipment such as ultrasonic cleaners, washers, and disinfectors.
- Preparation and Packaging:
- Assembles surgical instrument sets and medical equipment according to established protocols.
- Packages instruments and supplies in preparation for sterilization, ensuring proper wrapping, labeling, and documentation.
- Inspects instruments for damage or wear and report any issues to the line manager.
- Sterilization:
- Operates sterilizers (e.g., autoclaves) according to manufacturer guidelines and Fakeeh Care policies.
- Monitors and documents sterilization cycles, including time, temperature, and pressure parameters.
- Performs routine biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring tests to ensure effective sterilization.
- Storage and Distribution:
- Stores sterilized instruments and supplies in designated storage areas, ensuring proper rotation and inventory control.
- Distributes sterilized instruments and equipment to operating rooms, clinics, and other departments as required.
- Maintains accurate records of sterilization processes and inventory levels.
- Quality Control and Safety:
- Adheres to all infection control and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a safe working environment.
- Participates in regular equipment maintenance, calibration and performance checks, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Report any equipment malfunctions/ incidents or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, OSHA, and facility-specific policies.
- Maintains accurate records of sterilization processes, inventory management, and quality control measures.
- Professional Development:
- Stay updated on advancements in sterilization techniques and technologies through ongoing education and training.
- Participates in departmental meetings and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Attends all mandatory training as scheduled.
- Demonstrates compassionate communication skills while providing support and care to the patients and staff.
- Maintain a positive and proactive approach to challenges.
Minimum of 1-year experience as a certified sterilization technician in a clinically complex tertiary center. Knowledge of Performance Improvement Process and International Standards.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree associate or Health Science, or similar discipline
- Certification in sterile processing / Diploma in sterilization
Language:
Excellent command of oral and written English
Licenses / Certifications:
License from the country of origin, License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA), BLS, ACLS and other LSTC courses as applicable.
