The Senior Water Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical design of water infrastructure facilities in Saudi Arabia, contributing to ME's significant water infrastructure programmes aligned with Vision 2030 water security objectives. The role demands strong technical competence across pumping stations, desalination plants, and water and wastewater treatment works (WTW/WWTW), with the ability to independently manage design packages and mentor junior engineers within the KSA team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead detailed mechanical design of water pumping stations (raw water, potable, booster, sewage), including pump selection, hydraulic performance analysis, surge/transient protection, and ancillary mechanical systems.
- Develop process and mechanical designs for water treatment works, desalination plants (SWRO, MSF, MED), and wastewater treatment facilities, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment datasheets.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, design reports, technical specifications, BOQs, and IFC drawings; ensure compliance with Saudi standards (MOWE, NWC, SWCC) and relevant international codes (BS, ISO, ASME, AWWA).
- Undertake hydraulic transient and surge analysis using specialist software (HAMMER, or equivalent); recommend and specify appropriate surge suppression equipment and protection strategies.
- Coordinate mechanical design interfaces with civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation, and SCADA disciplines, support authority submissions, and client technical review meetings.
- Provide construction-stage technical support, including review of contractor submittals, shop drawings, and O&M documentation, and attend site visits for the major mechanical plant.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10-15 years in mechanical engineering for water infrastructure
- Demonstrable design experience on water pumping stations, desalination plants, and WTW/WWTW in the GCC or KSA specifically; familiarity with NWC, SWCC, and MOWE design standards is essential.
- Proficiency in 3D/2D mechanical design tools and working knowledge of BIM workflows.
- Strong communication skills in English; Arabic language proficiency is advantageous. Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural project environment across the KSA region.
