Job description
Operates electromechanical respiration equipment used to test and obtain data relative to the functioning of patient s respiratory process for use by physician in diagnosing and treating pulmonary disorders.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Performs basic cardiopulmonary function tests including simple spirometry, flow volume loop, lung volume testing by body plethysmography or helium dilution, lung diffusion testing, maximal voluntary ventilation, electrocardiogram, and pulse oximetry.
- Performs blood analysis tests to measure such factors as oxygen and carbon dioxide tensions, hemoglobin saturation and levels, and PH blood, using blood gas analyser.
- Performs advanced cardiopulmonary testing including cardiopulmonary exercise testing, oxygen requirements, bronchial provocation testing, exercised induced bronchospasm testing, sleep disorders screening, and bi-level positive airway pressure titration.
- Calibrates equipment daily and performs periodic control measurements to confirm measurement system accuracy. Performs user maintenance of all equipment; ensures that equipment is operating properly and informs supervisor if special maintenance or repair is needed. Checks crash cart and test defibrillator daily.
- Provides routine respiratory care and provides education to patients and families. Instructs regarding general therapeutic modalities including oxygen and aerosol delivery, metered dose administration, and bronchial hygiene.
- Provides Respiratory consultations, education and discharge planning for patients requiring Respiratory equipment and/or modalities at home.
- Demonstrates breathing techniques and instructs patients regarding breathing techniques during testing.
- Provides Respiratory consultations, education and discharge planning for patients requiring Respiratory equipment and/or modalities at home.
- Enters test data in medical records. Prepares testing reports and submits for interpretation.
- Reviews final test reports for accuracy prior to distribution and documents all gas parameters.
- Maintains records of equipment calibrations, control measurements, maintenance, and repairs as necessary.
- Bachelor s Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required.
- Required Grade 08: Two (2) years of related experience is required.
- Grade 09: Four (4) years as Pulmonary Function Technologist, or (Grade 08) related experience is required.
- Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years
- Fifty (50) hours of cumulative continued medical education [CME].
- Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
- Respiratory Therapy Registry (RRT) from NBRC or CSRT is required for North American graduates.
- Certificates of Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT or RPFT) are preferred.
- Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
- Bilingual skills [Arabic/English] in verbal and written communications are preferred.
